You Met The Match!

Dear Friends,

Last November, we shared that The Americas Foundation generously promised to match up to $125,000 of our community’s contributions to Cultivate Initiatives. We invited you to help us reach this ambitious goal.

Great news!
We officially achieved this milestone
& completed the matching campaign!  

We are tremendously grateful to all of you who joined this effort. We’d also like to express our immense gratitude to the Americas Foundation for choosing to invest in East Portland through this matching grant. The Americas Foundation supports organizations doing important work nationwide and has partnered with Cultivate Initiatives since 2021.

“In the last couple of weeks, a story exemplified how meeting people where they are can be so moving. A nursing student told us about an unhoused neighbor at the shower site she volunteered at through our Community Health Initiative. This neighbor was from Kenya and spoke a native Kenyan language that our nursing student also spoke. For the first time in a long time for both of them, they could speak their native tongue and share in conversation together.

It was spectacular to think about what that exchange meant for that neighbor. To find a health care provider in their local community who speaks their language. Someone they could connect with personally. I think about how dignifying it must have been for that individual. Meeting and sharing that time was so unexpected and wonderful for them.

That story fits so well with our Cultivate Initiatives model, whereby we want little disconnect between the organization and the community we work alongside. The more diverse and reflective our Cultivate Initiatives staff and volunteer teams are, the better we can serve and support our community.”
